Congratulations to the Band and Lee! The results are in at the London and Southern Counties Region of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. 17 bands were competing in the 1st section.

Sop, Cornet and Percussion Players required.
Alder Valley Brass presently have vacancies for Sop, Bb Cornet, Bass Trombone and also a kit percussion players, cornet player will be seated according to ability.
Our friendly band meets for rehearsals on Monday and Thursday evenings at the All Hallows School Weybourne Lane, Farnham Surrey GU9 9HF and offer a good mix of contest/concert work and social events.

Phyllis Tuckwell Presentation
During 2016 Alder Valley Brass made collections for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care in Farnham. These collections have come to £1163.56.
Most of this money was collected during December, when the band played carols and donations were collected.
Gemma Craig, Community Fundraising Manager, for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care attended rehearsals on on Monday 23 January, when a presentation of the cheque took place.
New Musical Director Of Alder Valley Brass
Alder Valley Brass would like to warmly welcome and introduce our new Musical Director, Mr Lee Woodward.
Lee is an experienced Musician, who has directed bands since 2007. His most recent success has been conducting both Saint Sebastian's and Staines Lammas Bands. In 2016, Lee led Saint Sebastian’s to their first ever appearance at the Area Contest second section finals. He is now looking forward to the challenge of taking Alder Valley Brass forward, building on the strong foundations left by Mr Roger Burke.
Having had lots of experience playing in bands, Lee joined the Army as a musician, serving firstly with the Band of The Kings Regiment, before successfully auditioning for a post with the Band of The Irish Guards. Lee was later posted to the Band of The Logistic Corps. Retirement from the Army came in 2014.
Lee is now looking forward to the challenge of preparing the band for the Area Contest, held in March, as well as a busy summer season. The Band currently have vacancies on bass trombone, cornet & percussion. So if you would like to be part of Alder Valley's exciting future please get in touch with MD Lee Woodward. It's A Third Place In The Victoria Day Parade!!
The band took part in the Victoria Parade, Aldershot during June. Claire Wade, General Secretary and Trustee for Alder Valley Brass received third prize from the Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Jacqui Vosper.
Alder Valley Brass receive £750 from Farnham Town Council
Cllr John Ward, Mayor of Farnham met with Claire Wade and Roy Hancock, Trustees of Alder Valley Brass, at Gostrey Meadow Bandstand today to present a cheque for £750.
The Trustees were delighted to receive the cheque on behalf of the band, which is a grant given by Farnham Town Council in order to purchase a new bass drum.
Alder Valley Brass have recently moved to their new base in Farnham at All Hallows School, and regularly play in the town and surrounding area. Band Members come from all over Hampshire and Surrey.

Alder Valley Moves Home.....
Alder Valley Brass are very pleased to announce that they have moved their base back to Surrey!
From 9 May 2016 the band will rehearse on Mondays and Thursday between 8pm and 10pm at their new permanent rehearsal venue:

The band would like to thank the Connaught School, Aldershot, Hampshire for allowing them to use their school as a temporary base.
Ronnie Corbett OBE
Alder Valley Brass was very sad to hear of the passing of their President Ronnie Corbett OBE today. A man of great charm and warmth who brought laughter and joy to millions.
He was quite simply one of the true greats of British comedy.
Ronnie Corbett became President of Alder Valley Brass in 2010 following their performances on the TV series 'The Two Ronnies’.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
Alder Valley Brass took part in the West of England Regional Finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain recently at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay.
Following a period of intense rehearsals the band performed Philip Sparke's set test piece, Cambridge Variations before the adjudicators Jacob Dijkstra and Richard Marshall.
The weekend was a successful social occasion for all the band members and one that will stay in everyone's memory for many years to come.
Congratulations go to the following bands: Flowers, Woodfalls and Aldbourne who have qualified for the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall."
Torquay Here We Come!!
Alder Valley Brass will be taking part in the West of England Regional Championship at the Riveria International Conference Centre in Torquay.
The Championship section will be playing Cambridge Variations by Philip Sparke after several weeks of extra rehearsals and preparation.
The results will be advised here as soon as announced
Cheque Presentation To Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice
During December the Band played carols in order to raise funds for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and themselves. At a recent rehearsal at the Connaught Leisure Centre, a presentation was made to Ashleigh Tennent who is the Community Fund Raising Manager, and Mike Price a volunteer at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
The total amount raised for them by the band during 2015 was £2849.
Farnham Royal British Legion Presentation
A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Alder Valley Brass by Ian Hunter, Parade Marshall and Roger Brown, Chairman of the Farnham Branch of the Royal British Legion.
This was for the support Alder Valley Brass gave on Remembrance Sunday, 8th November 2015, when they led the parade through Farnham and played incidental music during the laying
AVB Musician of the Year
Claire Wade was recognised by the Musical Director, Roger Burke, at the recent AGM, for having made the most musical progress in the last 12 months.
Claire joined Alder Valley Brass in 2014 on Cornet and has since become further involved as Trustee and General Secretary. She is one of the team behind the scenes organising the concerts, engagements and liaising with those organisations that seek to engage the band, as well playing the Cornet.
Commenting on the award, Claire said "I was very surprised but delighted to be presented with the ‘AVB Musician of the Year' trophy. It is an honour to be chosen and I feel lucky and proud to play alongside such a talented group of musicians at Alder Valley".
Band Member of the Year 2015
Lyn Sandford was voted Band Member of the year at the Alder Valley Brass AGM.
Lyn has been voluntary Public Relations Officer for the past three years. As you may know Lyn also edits these Newsletters.
