SCABA Autumn Contest

Sunday 11th October 2009

Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone.

Contest Report

It's only three weekends after the Wychavon Contest and Alder Valley Brass is off again, early on a Sunday morning, heading to the premier Kent resort Folkestone, for the SCABA Autumn Contest. This contest is held each year at the Leas Cliff Hall and this year sees a new direction, with all sections competing on the same day.

Entered in the First Section under SCABA rules, we were drawn a reasonable 7th place to play our own choice hymn tune (Warrington) and our own choice test piece “Music for the Common Man” by Kenneth Downie.

The adjudicator for the contest was Phillip Harper and he had a long day ahead of him with the results for the first section not being revealed until late into the evening after the Championship section had played.

Leaving the stage after our performance, the band felt that we hadn’t played as well as we had hoped and therefore although a little disappointed we were not surprised to be placed 10th out of 13 bands for the test piece, although a better result 7th for the hymn tune.

For further results see the SCABA report.
