Event ReportALDER VALLEY BRASS The festive season is upon us and Alder Valley celebrated this by holding their Christmas concert at Holy Trinity Church in Aldershot.
The band’s regular conductor Roger Burke was unable to attend the concert, so was on this occasion under the expertise of Roger Ball (an ex-cornet player of the band, but also currently the Director of Music of the Basingstoke Concert Band).

The spirit of Christmas was very much the theme of the evening with Peter Graham’s piece opening the concert, continuing in the first half with A Christmas Adventure, Jingle Bells and The Christmas Song. Our soloist of the evening was principal Euphonium, Brian Le Tissier, who played Jean Elizabeth by Goff Richards. Not to be outdone by Brian’s magnificent playing, the horn section then indulged in Bertrand Moren’s trio Horns Enjoying Themselves. Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus rounded off the first half.
After some light refreshments during the interval, more festive music ensued with Christmas Triptych, Merry Christmas Everyone and Leroy Anderson's famous Sleigh Ride. Peter Haigh and Chris Mayle continued with the evening playing John Rutter’s Angels Carol and finishing with a traditional end to the concert, Christmas Festival.
